My biggest tip for travel is become a member of a hotel chain’s loyalty program and use it as often as you can when traveling. This means if you are going on vacation, or travel for anything such as a work conference, wedding, birthday party, family vacation, etc., only stay at the hotel you are a member of. My husband and I are members of the Omni Hotel loyalty program called Select Guest and we have gained access to different things at the the hotel we would never have if it weren’t for our membership. This weekend my husband surprised me with a weekend getaway at the Omni Shoreham in DC, our favorite city. When we got to the hotel we did not have to check in, as our keys were already on the hotel board waiting for us. We grabbed our room keys and went to the room only to be surprised by the Beatles suite with wine, fruits and a happy birthday chocolate cake waiting for me. The funny thing is my husband did not request this, he simply put a note in our reservation that it was my birthday.
In return, we ended up with a 5 room suite that averages $1070 a night, all for being loyal customer. Like many hotel chains, with Omni, you earn a free night after staying a certain amount of nights. We like to use our free night in the summer months when the hotel is really expensive. Also with the Omni membership you could earn a local experience in which you get to experience something in the city you are staying for free. So go and become a member of a hotel chain so that you can earn free upgrades and free nights. It doesn’t have to be the Omni Hotels. We recently joined the Marriott rewards club because the Omni is not located in some cities in the US. The best part is you usually don’t have to pay to become a member. The trick is the more you stay, the more you earn.
